Chateau Mercian: Owning the famous wine brand Mercian, Chateau Mercian was first established in 1949. As a popular brand not only in Japan but also abroad, it has recently won the Gold Award in 57th International Wine Competition in Ljubljana. In addition to manufacturing wine, Chateau Mercian also provides a winery experience, in which tourists can see the production process and sample some wine. Vistors can also go to the nearby Miyakoen, the oldest existing wooden winery in Japan, to learn about the history of Japanese wine production.

Miyakoen: is the oldest existing wooden winery in Japan located right next to Chateau Mercian. It was built by one of the pioneers who introduced winery to Japan. Today, it has been remodeled in into a museum, presenting the history of Japanese winery to visitors. The business hours are from 9:30~16:30, closed every Tuesday and on New Year.




Budo no Oka: Lterally translated into Grape Hill, Budo no Oka is not an actual winery, but there is a wine cellar underground. From the small hill, visitors can have a panoramic view of the nearby vineyards as well as the Southern Alps in the west. Many people find the charm of wine irresistible. While soaking into the bath, you can enjoy the beautiful view of Kofu Plain, sometime even Mount Fuji on a clear day. L'Orient: This winery provides guests with a lot of winery experiences, from free short-term visits offered multiple times a day to long-term comprehensive studying experiences (advance reservation required). Haramo: In this ancient yet scenic winery, you can make your own wine. Grapes picking are offered from September to October. Different grapes are harvested in different seasons, and here you can find many world famous grapes. In a fashionable cafe built from old houses, you taste wine and have a delicious lunch, leisurely spending your time here.



How to Get to Katsunuma from Tokyo
By Train: take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku Station to Katsunumabudokyo Station. One way takes about 2 hours.
By Highway Bus: There are many Highway Bus operated by different companies multiple times a day from Shinjuku Station to Kofu. One way takes about 2.5 hours. At the Kofu Station, take the JR Chuo Line to Katsunumabudokyo Station, which takes about 20-25 minutes.
